Service to All — Except You
Today, at 11:00am I found out I am no longer welcomed in the United States of America. A man that found baking a cake, that looks like any other cake is offensive based on who buys it. This same man I am sure has baked cakes for couples that have committed various biblical sins, such as sex before marriage, divorce, adultery, lying, cheating, violence and more. But when two men asked for a cake it was offensive. And it was so offensive the US Supreme Court agreed. If you are in the LGBT community you are welcomed here, except you are not. You are separate, and unequal. I can be kicked out of a hotel because the shift manager may find me offensive. I may be refused service at a restaurant because holding hands with my wife is an abomination in their eyes. I may be kicked out of my home because the landlord finds being trans a sin.
This is the law of the land. A law that seeks to silence me, to erase me, and force me to hide. A law based on hate, supported by men and women of hateful beliefs.
I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know this will not stand. I will stand. I will shout, I will fight until this hateful ideology is purged from the landscape. I want to live in a country where I am equal. I want to be able to take my wife on a date, on a vacation, and buy her a cake.
You will not stop me. That has always been the message of Pride. And this year I feel a new sense that we will not be parading. We will be marching, we will be marching for rights. We will shout for equality. And we will be voting. We will like in decades before continue to push for equality for all.
Because as Martin Luther King, Jr. said
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.
The LGBTQQIAA community has always been on the forefront of civil rights. Please deny us service and we will fight back. Deny us our rights and we will persevere.
Keep your cake Masterpiece, because we will make better ones.
