White Nationalism or Republican? — It’s time to speak up

Last night Donald Trump held his first 2020 election campaign rally in my current state of North Carolina. At this rally the crowd erupted into an eerie white nationalist chant, “Send her back, send her back!” This chant is a vicious update of the already misogynistic “Lock her up” of 2016. What has changed is that Donald Trump is unafraid to show his despotism, and his unadulterated racism for millions now. There chants embolden him, and he emboldens them. We now face an election between a white nationalist or not. That is not up for debate. The chants prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this man, and his party are the party of oppression, terror, and racism, and bigotry to the extreme. None of it should be tolerated, and none of it should be leading this nation.

As I reflect on the chant of last night, I must admit, I am terrified. I wonder when the attacks on my humanity and my marriage will begin. You see, living in North Carolina has already shown it’s true colors to me. As I was assaulted early on in my coming out process, and after the election of Trump. I have received malicious comments online, on blogs, on Instagram and even the Nextdoor app. As we move forward in 2019 I wonder how long do I have left in this state, and more so how long do I have to walk about freely in this country? In 2017 we saw Muslim citizens and immigrants…
